Eric Voegelin on Political Theory and the Principles of Order

Titolo: Eric Voegelin on Political Theory and the Principles of Order
Autori: scotti nicoletta
Abstract: “Order” considered as a basic ontological term exhibits a manyfold meaning. Following the Aristotelian praxis of disambiguating linguistic terms by grasping their experiential implications, Eric Voegelin displayed in the New Science of Politics a critique of Positivistic attempts to get rid of the “order” derived from philosophical anthropology as part of a general ontology. Then, in Order and History, he considers the main historical types of political order and asks if they can be questioned by means of the philosophical-Platonic anthropological principle of the order of the soul.

integrato
Autori: Elisabetta Musi
Abstract: L’enfasi posta sulle dimensioni emotive rischia di scivolare nell’esaltazione
Abstract: The emphasis placed on emotional dimensions risks slipping into the
glorification of good feelings or of a life considered to be all the more
beautiful and fulfilling the more access to well-being is guaranteed.
However, the current concept of wellbeing, which has played such an
important role in developmental pedagogy, increasingly seems to be
identified not only with the absence of discomfort, but also with a general
desensitisation to evil, excluding it from the complexity of human
existence and its inherent fragility. This is the result of a breakdown
of the subject into unrelated dimensions (feeling, knowing and acting)
and the accompanying compartmentalisation of knowledge. One way of
recomposing the human being is to give credence to feeling, which constitutes
not only a means of accessing an essential form of knowledge
of existence, but also a device for sensing the discomfort of those who
experience situations of distress, suffering, violence and poverty. And
from there, to strive to act.
